What setup?
What exhaust setup is recommended? I have an 86 Lx 2.4 swap to a 302 5.0. Setups are :
1)BBK Longtubes
Off road h pipe
Flowmaster 3" cat back system
2)Mac Longtubes
Mac off road h pipe or x pipe
Mac 3" catback system
3)BBK shorties
BBK off road h or x pipe
MagnaFlow or SLP catback system
Ps. If you have any other setups in your head please feel free to post a comment, i need the most opinions possible!
I like a muscle car sound with a little of bark sound to it when you step on the pedal alittle bit !

with a stock motor I would do 1 5/8 headers and a 2.5 exhaust ( even on a mild build). BBK ceramic long tubes with an H and 2.5 cat back of your choice. Flowmaster 40s will give the muscle car sound but most qaulity hi flo mufflers are going to sound decent..really the whole thing wont sound great until you get an H,C,I.I'm not a fan of MACs flange design and they way they like to leak which suck because they aren't all that bad. sad part is once you take them of they are even worse to put back on.

It's been a long time since I had that setup, but it wasn't bad. I've had MAC longtubes as well.
Currently, I use Hooker SuperComp, but it's far from the ordinary exhaust system thanks to 2" primary and 3.5" collectors.
As for mufflers, the 40 series(possibly most common aftermarket for Mustangs) got too common for me and the sound eventually bored me. I switched to Dynomax Race Bullet and the sound impressed me. To me, they're not as loud from an idle or under 3k rpm, as compared to the Flowmaster. After that, at WOT they're louder and free flowing.
I'm not suggesting you use those(3" is as small as I've seen them), but if you don't wanna sound like every other Mustang, maybe consider Dynomax. Check out the Ultraflow welded, for example. If you're sticking with a 5L, don't waste your money on a 3" setup. Simply stated, you'll never need it. Plus, it's not just something that you slap in there. It fits, but not as easily as smaller stuff. You may get pipes dragging speed bumps and potholes more often than you like.
