What gears to get?!?

I Have a 1990 lx 5.0 thst is stock. Only 67,000 miles. What gears do you recommend to speed it up a bit? I plan on doing MAF. TB. Next. Just starting out with gears?

What gear ratio do you have? 5speed or auto?

To go faster, add a turbo or supercharger, to get more "off the line" pull, you do gears, which will actually reduce your top end speed.

Stock gears range from 2.73, 3.08, or 3.27. Going to 3.55s or 3.73s will be nice, but will not add speed, just quickness.

I'm sorry, it's an automatic. I'm
Just wanting more power off the line.. No top end. I don't plan on racing it.. I drive it to work everyday.. Some city and some highway.

Thinking 3.55 or 3.73. Am I going to need a new speedo?

Would 4.10 be too much for an all stock automatic? Would highway be terrible?

I basically want to floor it and the tires easily break loose.. It will not break loose right now unless I gun it through a turn.

Thanks guys!!

I put 410's in mine, and cruising at 70 I'm at about 2500 rpm, off the line it's awesome, but for a daily driver I would go with a 3:73. I'm sure you'll get a nice increase in acceleration and still be able to go down the highway

My buddy's 92 DD has 3.73s and it's perfect for him... As awesome as 4.10s are, may be a little much for a DD...

I'm considering this for my '91 also. I've got an AOD. Not sure of the gears. I just started considering a T5 swap, but in either case I want new gears.

Yeah I got the 3.73. Im on the highway everyday so I think those will be best. I though about switching it over to a manual... But **** that's a lot of work for a weekend! Lol. This is my only DD for now.

Whats a highly recommended throttle body.. Or what else could I do to speed it up.. Fairly cheap? It has a k&n cold air.. Not sure about the MAF, and flowmasters. other than that it's stock.

When you change your gears you also need to change the little plastic gear on the end of the speedo cable where it goes into the transmisson. It is pretty easy to change. You just need to swap for the right one to match your new rearend ratio to keep the speedo accurate.
