Weird Brake issues on 93 LX

Hello,
New to this forum, love it but need advice. Got a 93 LX 5.0 stock brakes (disc front drum rear 4 lug *******) When I got the car the short e brake cable (right from the handle) was broken. replaced it and all was fine for quite a while. Recently when I set the e brake and some times when I don't, on a take off I can feel drag on the back end and then when I get going a little "knock" sound and then it frees up. occasionally at low speeds I also experience a clunck or knock out back when braking. What's up with that? Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys, glad to join your forum!

Sounds like the drum is sticking, a frozen drum ( like setting it overnight in the winter) will pop like that. make sure dust and dirt hasn't gotten things stuck or even rust, then you will have to go to the parts store and pic a spring kit for the rear drums and redo everything. Do like texastboneking stated and pull them. I would 1st loosen them, 99% of them have a lip and don't pull easy. if it deson't come of easy don't yank it or you will do damage. just turn the adjuster from the back side to loosen the shoes.

Roger that... Just moved into a huge garage, gonna pick up a big kerosene heater here and pull the drums tomorrow... You guys hear of anything about ebrake cable issues? Just re-did the rear brakes last spring, although they could have rusted a bit, but never replaced the drums themselves.... It's annoying tho!

I broke my e brake cable. I'm guessing two things here

1 they are out of adjustment

2 you need more greese on the rub parts of the housing.

Right on, thanks Tex, Will check her out tomorrow... It was weird, I'm In Connecticut and in the recent warm spurt of weather I took her for a blasty blast and it's been weird. Left the gas station and had to double check the e-brake thought it was on when it wasn't, felt the drag then a lil "bink" and she freed up, weird. Thanks for the advice... Gonna check 'er out 2morrow when i get the garage heated! I hate the northeast climates!

no real issues with the fox and cables just look everything over, make sure the cable are in correct. you might also want to have someone pull up and release the e-brake while you watch it grab and release to also make sure the cables are operating properally also.
