I was just reading one in the sn95 section and i started to get curious about the foxes. Anybody know the claimed top speed of the 87-93s with 2.73 gearing? Also what has everyone had theirs up to?

I've only hit about 130 in mine before i started to run out of road, still pullilng though.

I stopped looking down at the speedo when I hit 135 but I didn't go much faster than that, I think my flex-fan holds me back since theres no clutch to it. I've got 3.08 gears

Dont know what gears were in the car, but I wrapped the needle around past 140, almost hitting the odometer reset thing. The needle was past the m in mph on the speedo when I let out. Ford factory speedos arent the most accurate at really high rates of speed though. My fox may have had gears in it as well (bought it already modded), but if it did they weren't really low gears.

don't you mean steep gears?

Not sure what you mean by steep gears. I mean lower gears, ie. numerically higher. For example, 4.10:1 gears are considered to be "lower" gears than 3.73:1 gears. The gear ratio basically means that for every 3.73 rotations of the pinion gear, the ring gear rotates one time. When changing to lower gears from the stock gearing on a mechanical operating speedo car, such as the fox mustangs your speedo will be off, or actually read faster than you are going. I believe this can be corrected by changing the speedo gear on the transmission for mechanical operating speedos. Where as electric speedos such as in the newer stangs require computer tuning, or another device to alter the signal going to the guage from the trans.

I'm envious of all of you! My 80 Stang with a 200 CID I6 can only make it to 145 km/h. Good, reliable, and cheap transportation, yes! Speed demon, no!

One small problem with that, dyno's dont offer wind resistance, and when judging top speed aerodynamics play a large part.

Hey,

I got my (stock, except for K&N, has the 2.73 gears) 1989 GT up to 227km/h (I am Canadian) so that should be around the 141mph mark. I actually got pulled over at that speed because my conscience told me to stop after I streaked pasted the 2nd cop going in the oposite direction. Turned out that second cop was dating my best friends mom at the time. I think to score points with her and look cool, he told me my speed and let me go. This was back in the day (1998) when I was 19. Good times.

I just noticed it says on the side I am a V6 memeber. How do I change that, and how do I get it so my posts say my "stats" at the bottom? Anyone know?

near the top right of this page just above the ad banner go to "my controls" then click "edit signature"

that's why I specified 'on the dyno' because I'm sure it wouldn't make it to that speed on the road.

Be careful not to get to excited to become "GT" status, look what happend to me....as far as top speed goes, had mine at 110 with plenty to go.

Yeah, 227km/h was is the fastest I have been in a car.

I have some friends from Calagary - When ever they come to BC they make fun of me for having a FOX Mustang; always saying "everyone has one" I always say "Great! I wish everyone had one - more people for me to talk to about them!"

Thanks for letting me know how to change my info Angelo!

According to Ford dealer info, the highest top speed for a Fox was by the Michagan State police in 1987

139.6 mph from a 1987 5.0l HO Mustang with 5spd stick and 3.08 gears.
Certified by radar and watch timing on closed course.

auto was factory rock stock excepet for the tire pressures having been increased.

In 1993 top speed was recorded at 141.3 with 5spd & 3.08
quarter mile was 15.22 at 92.4 mph
