Thinkin of makin the switch....
I'm thinkin about converting my rear drums to disks on my 92. Has anyone done this, was the switch diffucult? If anyone has any helpful insight or has a conversion kit they would recommend, let me know. Thanks
If you are going to mod your Stang in any way this is the first step you should make. Good thinking. A lot of people will hop up their cars without first thinking about handling and braking. Make it stop, make it handle, then make it go!
As for kits, like 63 Galaxie said you can find a 94-98 V6 for the five lug conversion or if you can find a junked SVO 85-86 Mustang they had rear disc in the Four lug format. You will also probably need a new master cylinder for the mod.
If you want new you can go to 5.0 Resto for a new kit. Heres the link and good luck and have fun:

My Mustang has drums in the rear, and its four lug. It brakes weak right now because of the master cylinder, but there are fox body's running nine's with fourlugs, and i bet some have drums. I see a lot of people changing to fivelugs

I haven't experience (rear drum) brake fade, but I'm not road racing in stop-n-go freeway traffic either. If you are planning on converting to 5 lug rear, you'll need to convert the front to 5 lug also, if you want to be able to rotate tires. As 35th GT stated, you can convert the rear, and keep your 4 lug with that kit. A wrecked/junked SVO might be a difficult find
For the price of that kit, I'd look at changing/replacing rear suspension pieces, beefing up the front rotors, and adding some sub-frames. But hey, thats just me. I'm married with children!
Don't bother searching for an SVO for the disc brakes....just find a Mark VII Lincoln...same exact brakes and you can buy the SVO E brake cables through NAPA for about $40 each. But remember they are 5 lug...if you want to go 4 lug then you need to get the axles/brakes from an 87-88 Tbird Turbo Coupe.
Just thought I'de take a second and thank you fellas for all the advice...the pro's and con's...what a where to look...etc,etc....I think for now I'm stayin with the drums and puttin the money toward I few minor cosmetic details that seem to stick out..(at least to me they do)....once again, thanks.
