He is right....those are '83 Headrests and they WILL NOT work no matter what you do....they physically will NOT fit in that seat....the Recaro seat takes 2 seperate rods on the headrests while that takes the one wide one...sorry but they aren't going to work no matter how you try unless you somehow butcher/modify the seat to attempt to make it work and then I still think you won't have any luck.

The good news is that those headrests ARE worth some money as they are quite rare...more so than the Pace car ones.

Well, I guess I'll have to keep looking, the headrest are in great shape on the Pace Car except the netting is kind of torn up. The vinyl is in perfect shape just the nets are bad.

Talk to a trim shop, they may be able to replace just the netting. Those things had to come apart at some time so I imagine they could come apart again for re-netting.

The headrests in your pic aren't the correct ones for 79 pace cars and 80-82 Mustangs with Recaro seats. They are from 83 sport seats. 84-86 sport seat headrests were simular, but without the netting. The correct headrests will have two posts, which go into the seat and will be a bit larger than the 83 headrests.

New the good news, sort of. There is a company reproducing the correct fabric for the seat centers of the pace car. The web address is: http://www.smsautofabrics.com/ . It's not cheap, but it's correct. The actual material was a very light gray (not white) and black. They will send out a sample if you contact them.

I'm an old timer and was just coming into the new car buying age when the Fox Mustans came out in late 78 as 79 models. I've always had a soft spot for them. I've owned several over the years and currently have a 90 7up convertible. I almost bought a Pace Car in early 1980 new. I've regetted not buying it for years. I have a good article from Motor Trend and a press release packet for it. I'd be glad to make a copy of them if you'd like. Good luck on the restoration!
I just got the samples from SMS and it is exact!! Thank You for pointing me in their direction even though it a bit more money it is exact!!!

I would love these.

Good luck going forward on the build! I have had a PC for ~ 10 years and after some early work it has been dormant for several years. I plan to do an in-depth resto-mod in the future.

I don't know if you have a place lined up to refinish your wheels or not, but there is a great place here in Ohio that does wheels.

Check out - www.motomotion.com if interested.

I just had them quote refinishing the wheels on my 1990 25th Anniversary LX (7up), was just under $600.

Ok HELP! Need a drivers door for a 79/80 Mustang, looks like the door was damaged and repaired with a bunch of mud, sooooo don't want to use it. If anyone knows where there is one in good shape let me know. Dont care about the glass or works if that is an issue.

Thnx!!

The early Fox Mustangs had the inside door handle way down on the bottom of the door unlike the the later which were above the armrests...

It's a pain to reach down there to open the door, they must have had alot of complaints to change it.

ReVitalizing!!

OK finally! After a few years, the 79 is out of the dusty corner of my brothers shop.. Getting ready now for paint... Been buying parts for it and when I started this project my son Connor was 10! He has now taken over the project and loving it! It will look mostly factory but will be adding some 87/93 side ground effects and a 93 Cobra rear bumper cover. Lowering it also about 1 1/2 inches.. Man its been along time!! Connor is 16 now and he has it running!!

I just read the whole thread. Just wondering, Jacostang, what happened? Did other priorities happen i.e. kids, house, etc? Some people start a project and then just lose interest after awhile. No disrespect. Just wondering is all. There is almost a 5 year gap in posts. Good to see a youngster taking interest.

Ok so I believe the lord works in mysterious ways, less than a mike from my house I found this... The matching 79' Ford Ranger truck, all original some dings here and there and surface rust only. Everything is there! Met a new friend also in the process!! Going to "Gas Monkey" it and get it running like a champ and drive it around for a while..
