The speedometer cable in my 85 GT is going out and I cannot find a replacement for that year. They all start at 87. I was thinking I may have to install a gauge from an 87 and then use an 87 cable to make this work. Does any one know if the 87 and later speedometer will fit in the 85 dash and will the 87 cable fit the 85 T5 trans? Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
PS... 50Resto sent me a generic cable. Won't fit.

Typical of larger parts suppliers...just ship a part out without caring about anything but taking your money. The salesmen just take the order and don't fully understand what you want.

The 87 Speedo is not going to work in your car so don't even waste another thought on it. The 85 Mustang had a cable that was specific to the 1985 GT. This cable was obsoleted from Ford long ago

I suggest trying local junkyards which may be like searching for a needle in a haystack or if you want an NOS Ford part try PPI at (703) 742-6207...I just called them for you and they have one of those cables in stock.
