Thumbs down Sad Day

Well boys im putting the stang up for sale today. Its getting too expensive for a student to run and insure, but mostly to keep gas in the tank at $1.16/liter. Im freakin bummed.

Its gonna kill me to sell my first car, but i did some math and its cost me $4000 in the last year just for gas and insurance (with no collision), then on top of that there was a whole lotta crap for maintenance. Anybody else feelin the hurt from the gas (or other things) bad enough to sell their baby yet?

Oh yeah, especially when Mustang 3.8L gets only 13 mpg.

But then again, my other option is F-150 ... so I don't know which option is worse.

By the way, I would wait little bit more. You will really hate if you sell your car and then price of gas go down.

Sorry to hear your situation. I too am a student, and I know the feeling of having to pump money into the tank week after week. Luckily, I go back to school at Temple in a couple weeks. I take the train into the city every day, and even though I just spent $550 for the semester train pass, I spend very little on gas during the school year.

By the way, Im inclined to agree with Redstar. Wait a little bit longer. At this point, youre already spending a lot of money on the car, so waiting a little longer couldnt hurt that much. Also, gas prices tend to peak in the Summer, so hopefully they will be on their way down in the next month or so. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Not enough to sell my baby yet, and I am older than a student here. Sorry to hear that you are faced with selling. I listed my BMW 330i for sale. I hope to replace it with a FWD FORD 500 and keep my Mustang with lower combined payments.

Well its not just the gas which im sure as well will go down some. Supposed to hit $1.30/liter here by the end of the month before it goes down any because of the shutdown of the BP pipeline in Alaska.

Insurance is pricey for a 19 year old on a V8, and in the last year ive blown the engine, put on new tires, and needed to replace a lot of other crap, for a total of another $4,500. Plus its got 197,000km on it right now and im sure that once it hits 200k, the market value will go down even though it makes absolutely zero difference if a car has 197k or 200. My car isnt too great in these canadian winters either, and this year is supposed to be a bad one. Plus i need to free up a bit of money for school, so i think ive gotta get something else even though i really dont want to.

Im looking at getting a little early 90s 4x4 pickup. A toyota or a nissan or a ranger/b-series or something. So if anyone knows of any in western canada or the NW states, let me know.

Thanks guys.

Are you kidding? My '98 V6 got 17-20 mpg in the city (and 25-26 highway). There's something wrong with yours...

Yeah, there is something really wrong. I posted few topics here on forum about that in the past, I took it to Ford dealer few times, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

A/C is never on, I shift under 2,000 RPM. 39,000 miles.

I actually tried that, asked my dad if he wanted to buy it and throw it in a barn somewhere or something. Wouldnt cost that much for them and it would be cool to dig out in 30 years. Theyve already got 3 cars for the two of them though, so they dont really want any more.

But i dont really wanna go back to being 15 years old and taking the bus/walking/bumming rides.

I really don't know.

I drove it to the Ford dealer once and they couldn't find anything wrong.

I am 19 and gas is a PITA, I spend 40 bucks a week for my 5.0 on gas, I do a lot of driving though. My insurance isnt too bad since the car is paid for, and I have not had any MAJOR repair jobs knock on wood. I do not plan on selling my car, I actually am looking at buying an 03-04 Cobra sometime when I get enough money. But I doubt that.

Sorry to hear your selling the car.

I cover my car for the winter, and it makes a huge difference in affordability for gas. And sure walking sucks, but driving the stang in the winter sucks. Don't get me wrong I love my car, but real wheel drive can be a ***** in the winter. And isn't the insurance in Alberta based on age and not the car? Now that is Move to Saskatchewan and your problems will get slightly better.

I cant really get aorund too good without a car. I live in the burbs and calgary is a pretty big city.

And insurance in Alberta is is based on age and car. collision is dependent on both, so because its a V8 i cant afford it. Liability is based on age. Being a 19 year old male im paying as much as i possibly could for insurance. And it is a load fo crap, there are other groups that are worse drivers than the dreaded young males, but because i dont want to get flamed ill leave it to everyone else to figure out a few.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully, you'll be back in the saddle sooner than you think (awful pun intended)! Just try and save up for another one when the time is right. Good luck.

I bought an 03 cobra when I was 19 (2 years ago). Great car, but the insurance was devestating. Like, 500 a month. Just keep that in mind.
