Update: arranged to have car looked at by mechanic...the seller was to drop off last night...he didn't......sure would be nice if people would live up to arrangements...needless to say im not buying this guys car...

A fuel pump or clogged fuel filter could be the problem...typically if you can hear the fuel pump loudly then it is likely not long for this world. It's an easy fix though.
