Pinging after MSD install

I just installed a MSD 6AL box on my 85, and the engine runs great, but there is a bunch of pinging at around 1,500 rpms. The timing is at about +11 right now.
What problems will pinging cause, and does anyone have suggestions on a timing advance/retard or some other way to fix this?

pinging can blow up a motor over time, but i am not sure whats wrong, maybe u r running too low a octane?

do you mean the timing is 11 after topdead center? shouldnt timing be 10-14 Before top dead center? does it ping in the rest of the RPM range? dont know much about carbs. maybe its not getting enough gas at idle?

its 11 btdc, and only at about 1250-1750 rpms
by the way, does anyone know a good trick for tuning my weber carb?(edelbrock model)
