My friend bought this car and we are picking it up tonight. It's got high miliage 167k but has only had one owner and is pretty much stock. From what we know it is fairly rare too. Only around 9800 GT verts were made in 1986. I am still trying to find the exact production numbers with his colors and options. Anyway, its gunna require some cleanup and its been sitting for 18 months. Wish us luck getting it running tonight .

Four eyes are awsome. Wish I was adding it to my collection but this one my housemate is buying. So it won't be mine but at least it will be another Mustang hanging around my place.

Ok, so last night we go to pick up the fox. I pulled a plug and it looked good so we tried to jump it and nothing. The battery was totally shot from sitting so long. So we picked up a new battery, dropped it in and she started right up! One problem we were having though is the idle was not consistant. It kept dropping down like it was going to stall (and did stall about 3 times) and then the idle woudl pick back up to normal and repeat. We were able to drive it 10 miles home with no stalls or any problems like that. I am thinking a full tune up might get rid of the idle problems.
The wheels were totally lopsided from sitting so long. They had even sunk 4" into the ground haha. So driving home they looked funny. There are lots of minor issues like the rear quater windows not rolling up all the way and the convertible top not going down automatically. They can all be fixed. We are gunna work on cleaning it up this weekend. Anyone have any ideas on the idle?

could be a bunch of things causing the idle problems. first i would try unhookng the battery let it sit for a while to reset the computer. reattach the cable and turn the key to the on position but dont start the car. press the gas all the way to the floor and release. try that. ford told me its the way to reprogram the computer for the TPS for idle. i had an 86 GT vert. ill find a pic and post it.

Definitley post some more pic's when she's cleaned up a bit, inside and out. Looks straight, awesome find!
Just out of curiosity, why was she parked so long? (especially outside in the grass, poor thing )

after sitting, most cars need work, so Don't forget to replace or check all fluids,(rear end fluid, tranny fluid) do an oil change, air, oil, fuel filter changes also, and check the oil pan because after sitting it'll prolly have a leak or be rotted out and u might need new hoses and belts.
-Idk about the idle issue though, is the firing order correct? are all the plug wires in the right place?
