Our new $9,616.00 '82 Mustang GT

I just located this photo of our very first 'new' car. It was always 'used' cars for us until we couldn't resist this amazing 5.0L HO 157 HP beauty at our local Ford dealer. We paid full sticker of $9,616.00 minus a 1975 AMC Gremlin trade-in
Wouldn't it be something to have that ride back in our garage now (in that condition), but after loading up the miles plus wear and tear over the next 6 years, we traded the car in for a new ride.

I'd love to have one of those '82 GTs (though '83 GTs are my favorite!) Were those standard GT wheels 14" or 15"? I can't remember . . .

Yes those where the standard 14" wheels for the GT package. TRX being the option.

I remember that option because of the different wheel design. You brought back another memory. We snatched this right off the front of the dealership.
You never forget your first 'new' car. I also remember many of my co-workers buying the newly designed 1982 Trans Am with that horrible Cross-Fire Injection 305 engine. Their cars lived at the dealership with the mechanics scratching their heads while I was out cruising trouble-free. Not knocking GM as I own two right now but those '82's had the engines from hell.

One of the best-looking four-eyed front ends. Period. Point blank. Used to see a black one like that cruising the freeways years ago - makes me wonder what happened to it after seeing this thread.

Sweet car! And kudos to Ford for being able to squeeze out a full 32hp per liter(based on 4.9L since that is what the 5.0 really was). LOL.

Glad you guys like the photo. Here is a rear shot in front of our old house in FL. Sorry about the quality. Probably taken with an old Insta-matic with 126 film.

Nice! I know where one of these is sitting that has been taken very good care of for a long time but now sits outside under a car cover. It's even the same color.

Just a note: This Fox section is so much more receptive than the SN95 section. You guys are very positive and appreciative, just like my regular area, the 2005-2009 section. Thank you for that.
I just posted about a sweet ultra low mileage '97 Mustang GT at the recent Mecum auction and the car was put down pretty bad in that SN95 section. I don't understand the negativity about any Mustang, the very car that we all own. It isn't like I was talking about another brand. I guess not all Mustang owners are on the same page but I sure haven't experienced that at the car events I attend, or here on The Mustang Source for that matter. Sorry for venting, just a bit disappointed.

I remember like it was yesterday walking into a stop and rob and seeing a motor trend magazine with the 82 on the cover saying the boss is back! Stood there and read the whole article. I used to do that all the time back in those days before the interwebs. lol

I managed to get a used 84gt years later. I just remember how excited I was to see Ford get back into the performance business that they abandoned. Who would have thought 157-175 hp was big power but it was back then.

I'm glad you guys like the '82 mustang Gt. I also have one in my garage but it's not quite in that good of shape(but still very good condition). It now has a 350hp 351w under the hood. Unfortunatly, years ago I was young and stupid and got rid of the factory hood and got a fiberglass lift-off hood! I've had it for 23 years now and it's been garage kept for the last 18 years. I probably shouldn't have trouble finding a buyer for it if I ever want to sell it

I was about 21 when they came out and I remember it well. I was very impressed with em. Always loved the look. When i saw one driving I always turned my head.
