Does any one know what kind of plastic the center console is made of? I was thinks of getting some of the plastic glue that actually melts it together, the taking a holw saw and cutting out two holes for cup holders. I'd have to relocate the 12v outlet, but thats no big deal. I'd think this is a better idea than payin too much for something that plugs into the ashtray.
What do any of you think?

Sounds like a great idea! There's been SOOO many times i've needed a cup holder in my car, it's such a pain not having one. And I've checked out those plug in ones and they look like they'd be ugly and get in the way. And I have no use for the nasty ashtray, so making a cup holder there is a great idea. Let me know how it comes out.

What I think is that unless you are experienced you are going to end up with a ruined console in the end. The nice thing about the add on piece is that you can remove it. I never found a problem having a cup in my Fox...the spot between the Ebrake handle and passenger seat works fine .

It left a reverse print, kinda like Silly Putty, sans the Silly   .
I wonder if Mayonaise would take off the ink?

Try something like Fantastic and some elbow grease. If that doesn't work, try methanol. If you're worried about the vinyl dye coming out with the solvent, use a white rag, if it begins to turn the colour of your seat, use a different cleaner.
I wedged my coffee cup in that area one morning..... :bang: . At the end of the day, the screenprint from the cup left itself on the side of the seat.... . (The vinyl reacts with plastisol inks)
