HEY PAUL!
My friend and I were curious.. how much does an SVO weigh? And how much could I reduce that number to with hypothetical carbon fiber or fiberglass body panels, tubular parts, etc?
Also, how much power can we get out of that 2.3L on stock internals. We're bench racing and he's yammerin' on about STIs and all, and I think I could make just as good, if not better, of a performer out of an SVO for less money than an STI.

That would be a lie.....the stock rods will not last at that power level....seen it attempted many times and seen the ending results as well
.
Both my SVO's are in the 400RWHP range and both of them are 2.5 strokers with aftermarket internals.
300-350HP is more realistic with stock internals but probably pushing it at that point. The car weight depends on the style...a Competition Prep SVO which had no power options and no A/C weighed approximately 2900lbs while the other SVOs weighted approximately 3100-3200lbs.

I believe there was an article but I don't believe the article. A lot of times writers of these articles will print whatever the person tells them depending on the magazine.....so take what you read in a magazine with a grain of salt....if it sounds like a ridiculous claim then it probably is.
Now maybe they strapped a 2.3 to a dyno and hit it with a 200 shot...then it blew....sure, MAYBE it made 450RWHP on stock internals.....ONCE!

I had a friend of mine make 407RWHP on stock internals on the dyno once with Nitrous....car ran fine and then when he pulled into his driveway it spit a rod out of the side of the block. But that's what I mean....it won't live at that level.

I don't know about "expert"...LOL. I know a lot but there are a few guys out there that now A LOT more than I do when it comes to building these engines. John Huber is one...his '79 Mustang is just SICK!!! John is a heck of a nice guy....his car runs 9's in the 1/4 mile....nothing stock about the internals but it is a 4 cylinder turbo! There are a lot of videos of his car on Youtube but here is one with an impressive wheel stand....

Thanks Paul!
I've always wanted to know a bit more about the "limits" of the SVO, and I finally had a reason to ask
I think you should also post pictures of your SVOs
