heads

I have a upper and lower intake from a explorer it came with the car (not installed) the previous owner said he put in a e303 cam roller rovkers and did a little porting on the stock heads also has a 410 with a 3000 stall and shift kit its a aod, my? Are 1 are the heads on the explorer the same as on the foxbody cobras and would it be worth me installing the explorer heads with the u/l intake as far as better performance. I'm on a buget and can't do aluminum heads.

Thanks.

The heads are the sweet spot of the swap. The valve size alone is worth it. Not sure of the porting/polishing on the stock heads. I had my gt40s rebuilt, 5 angle valve job, ported, polished, and gasket matched. And my intake ported, polished, and gasket matched. Not a bank breaker!

Explorers cam with GT40 and later GT40p heads. The valves in the p are different and they have revised spark plug angles. The 93-95 cobras had GT40 heads that gave higher compression then the explorer ones. You can mill the explorers for the same result.

Also have the valve springs been changed on the set you are looking at? I wouldnt pay over $300 for a excellent condition set unless they have been worked.

I would just try to find a set of P heads on eBay if you're motor is good. The cams in those are garbage, and the springs would need to be changed in the heads anyway. Not a bad price on the motor, but there are better ways. Once again, I do understand how budgets go.

$600 is not far from the price of a good set of heads. Save your money and go for the good stuff. Patience will pay out in the long run. Otherwise you'll never be satisfied with those $600 cast heads. I went with the Windsor Jr's on mine and should have saved a little while longer and just got the trick flows.

Because they'll have to upgrade springs. Your e303 will need them. Are they rebuilt?

I agree. From the research I have done on the fko teks, they are pretty decent heads. They wont compete with afr or trickflow. But they are a step up from the gt40s and you will also get the advantages of aluminum heads. Like better cooling properties, lighter weight, and less harmonics. For the price I dont think they can be beat.

I think those are the heads MM&FF used on the 85 Capri 4 barrells of fun. they did not dyno the car, just track tested it.
