found a '80 mustang for 50.00
A buddy of mine has a '80 mustang at his yard that was involved in a engine fire so the engine, tranny, and interior are gone. I was offered 50 to take it off his impound yard. He went through the car and said the body is in good shape, no rust and has some performance mod's that were on his '89 mustang. Understand that I know very little about these fox bodies but was wondering how this car would or does do on a track? How much effort is there in making one of these into a track car.
Lesse if I get this right:
It was in a fire.
The fire killed the engine, tranny and interior.
That's a lot of heat.
Heat changes the properties of metal so it becomes less strong
Less strong metal means the body and chassis will flex and bend.
Conclusion: Unless you sink a whole bunch of money in a new tube chassis and just use the shell for looks, this car will stink at the track. And if you're goin' shell only, well, fiberglass seems to be a better option.
And that's my layman's opinion. I'm sure a real race car driver will be similar though.
Skip it. Unless you want to toss 50 bux away.
