I have a 88 5.0 and I really want to swap it out for something else. I am satisified with the 302 but its pushing 150,000 miles on it and I dont think that its a good idea to try to build a powerful street car out of that. It runs strong now but I dont think that it has the potential to hold for that much longer being a street/strip car. I dont want to go to big because I want to be able to swap all the parts I have on it now (intake manifold, headers, etc.) Im in a jam and I dont know what to do. Any suggestions on a set up would be appreciated. Thank you.

A 302 is a good starting point for a powerful street car. They've got a huge aftermarket, and considering that you can stroke em' and give them more displacement, I don't see much of a reason to stray away from the block for anything short of a :worship: Cammer.

Before I sold my Capri I was planning on a 306, or a 331 stroker motor. These might be an option with the list of your parts you currently have (though a good set of heads would be needed). If you haven't already you could visit . .http://www.coasthigh.com/ to glance over parts, and/or complete engine packages.

Just my $.02. Keep us updated!

thanks alot evil capri. Thats really weird because I was on that website last night and I seen some really nice engines but I think I found a really nice set up that I want. I was looking on dssracing.com and they have a really good selection for short blocks. I was looking at the 306. It also helps that Ive only heard good things about them. Its a 306 Pro Bullet short block. I would get that with a set of AFR 185 heads. Thats what Im aiming for so hopefully I will be able to get it this summer. If you have any suggestions or comment please let me know.

If yur building on the cheap, get a set of heads from a 97 up exploder. GT40p's are good for 20 hp over a bone stock E7TE's if you've got the stuff to support them.

Im not really going cheap. I rather wait extra time and build it slow and expensive than to build it cheap and fast. I was thinking about getting a 306 Pro Bullet Short Block from dssracing.com with AFR 185 heads. Does anyone have any suggestions on this setup?

I would look again at a 331. It wont be much more $$$ than that 306 and the torque increase is significant. The 185 heads would work well, and the rest of your accys will transfer over.

All your 302 goodies will bolt up to the 347, because it uses the same block. Granted, your goodies might need an ugrade with the added cubic inches to see full effect.

yeah everything will fit any 302 based stroker b/c still uses same block. but the bigger the motor the better the exhaust and intake needs the motor will have. and the 302 prob has the biggest aftermarket of pretty much any engine out. but you prob will want to check with the head manuf to see if the headers you already have will bolt to the heads you want. from what i have heard some headers wont bolt to some heads

yeah no problem i know the exhaust is true going from E7TE heads to the GT40P the bolt pattern or something is different, and i think you will definitely like the sound of the MAC exhaust. i have it on my 92. and people pull up beside me and ask about my exhaust atleast 2 times a day.
