Engine Swap
#1
Hello all! This is my first post here. I don't have a Mustang but my brother just bought an '86 LX for 200 bucks. It runs and drives fine but needs alot of body work. I'm here asking questions for him because he is the body guy, I'm the mechanical guy. I've never worked on fords much so I don't know alot about them. My last project car was a '69 Camaro. I did all the work on it myself (except the body, that was my brother).
Anyway, he wants to do a 5.0 or 4.6 swap so he can come to the drags with me. I am trying to talk him into doing a superchager as well. What can I say, I'm just a force induction kind of guy. I think I have him talked into it since I gave him a ride in my 12 second WRX which I just upgraded the turbo on. My only problem is I don't know where to start looking for this kind of information. What we will need and about how much we are looking at. he wants to spend between 5-6k on the whole deal (1000 of that will be paint and body). So basicaly how much are we looking at and where can I source information about the parts we will need for the conversion, (engine drivetrain ect)? Would it be possible to source a Cobra longblock and tranny? Or would it be better to get a short block and buy heads and a supercharger kit??
Sorry this was so long and I hope this is in the right place..
Thanks for your time and ideas..

You could try www.dssracing.com, they have Bullet Short Blocks 306/308 for 1,400, or you can call 770-867-2644 "Mustang Parts Specialties, inc". They have any mustang part new and used.
