dropped to 15?
I have a 1988 Ford Mustang GT 5.0. I went on vacation for almost 2 weeks and when I left the car was running fine. When I came back I I went to start it and I realized that I left my electric fuel pump on and it killed my battery. I jumped it and let it run for 15 minutes and drove it for almost 5 and immediatly my water pressure jumped to almost 200 and my oil pressure dropped drammaticalyl to almost under 15psi from where it was before around 40-50 psi. My question is, should I not drive it until I get it fixed and is anyone has any suggestions on what it could be and how I might be able to fix it. Thank you in advance for all the help.
I read your post two or three times, but I don't understand. If the car starts and runs, the fuel pump must be okay. I assume you mean water temperature not pressure. Water temps of 200 are not that uncommon in summer. As far as oil pressures, if your car has a lot of miles on it, pressure will drop with higher temperatures. I guess you might check your cooling system if you suspect this is not typical, but I don't think it has anything to do with your dead battery or your fuel pump.
um..dont know how you left your electric fuel pump on? do you have s toggle switch you have to turn on before the fuel pump comes on??? but as far as the guages, they are electrical gauges and if the battery isnt putting out enough amps to correctly power everything on the car. they will read innaccurately(sp) i would go and have your battery and alternator checked first
Yes I did mean water temp., sorry. Anyway, I got a new battery and I went and got my oil changed because I thought it might have been that because when I baught the car I wasnt sure when the oil had been changed last. I got it all changed and the oil pressure was reading 45psi and than after 1/2 hour of driving it it dropped to 12. Im not sure what is going on. And for conv stang, it does have a switch that I have to turn on and off everytime and start and shut off the car. I asked tech support on summit racing and they said that if the oil pressure is dropping and my water temp is rising instantaneously than it could be a cracked head, a cracked block, or a head gasket. Could this be the problem?
dont know, but i guess as the engine heats up it expaneds and causing the leak to appear. take it to a shop and hav ethem do a compression leak down check. that should give you an answer to that problem. but i hope not, b.c that would stink.
Are you leaking any oil? If not, then you probably don't have a cracked block.
My first impression was that because you left your fuel pump on, it pushed fuel in with the oil, and when that happens your oil losing all of its cooling properties, but since you said you changed the oil and still have the same problem...well, I guess that isn't the issue.
Possibly what is happening is that you have an internal leak which is allowing anti-freeze to enter the crankcase. Are you losing anti-freeze, or is the level staying the same?
