driveshaft rubbing the firewall after a drop with springs

i guess the 4 cyl. mustang have a balancing ring on the driveshaft and the after i dropped it about a inch and a half its rubbing with there's a heavy load in the car. the mech. sdaid i have 3 options hit the firewall so i can make it wider and not rub,get stock springs again or get a new drive shaft. i dont want to bang the car up,so that leaves me with 2 options. where can i get a drive shaft that will fit without that balancing ring? i really dont want to get stock springs again . it only rubs on a really heavy load. thank guys

you could have someone cut the opening out and weld a new piece of metal with a wider opening

You can try searching but mustangs unlimited and other factory sized parts dealers don't have many 2.3l parts in stock and not many people even make aftermarket parts for them. I don't believe the 5.0 driveshaft will mount up right.

not sure if you already addressed this but like stated above there are not a ton of options for you. the least pita would be to split the difference and take it back up a bit. or just finally do the full conversion and make that coupe scream! btw how are things going?

Seems like the ring is part of the transmission slip yoke and you could get a new yoke without the ring. Try dennys driveshaft. Ford Slip Yokes

Or take your yoke down to a machine shop and have them shave the ring down a bit.

Hmmm... I'd be having a talk with the mechanic you spoke of in the OP. Sent you completely in the wrong direction.

+1 on a talk with your mechanic if he wasn't the one to look into that after the initial troubleshooting attempt. Perhaps some polyurethane mounts are in order, can be had for less than $30 if you haven't already replaced it.
