computer location

I have been told the computer needs replaced in 1991 2.3 mustang. Any tips on replacing and where is the little bugger located?

On 5.0s its inside the passenger side kick panel, to right of the passenger's right foot. I imagine it is the same location for the 4 cylinder. Who told you it needs replaced and why? Just curious

it sounds and feels like it is running on 2 cylinders. no power at all. wont go above 30 mph. it will be fine and then act up and then be fine again. when it is acting up the car emits a foul stench. not out of the exhaust pipe neccassarily. ithe guy @ work that works on all of our vehicles says it is the computer. he described the smell when i started explaining him the symptoms. going to get one at a junkyard and try it.

hmmm don't think I've heard of this problem before. Is it an automatic transmission? The junkyard computer sounds like a good idea, a new one is prolly way expensive.

Yes the 4 cylinder computers are in the same place as 5.0s. Passenger side kick panel . Having a 1991 becareful? that was the year some 2.3 ers had 4 spark plugs while most had 8 pluggers. You will want to match what you have. Also you will want one from the same tranny as well. Oh and make sure you disconnect the battery so you won't short out the new one.

Also Auto Zone has a spray paint size can of Electronics Cleaner.
You can spray the male and female ends before plugging in the new one.

Hope this helps keep us posted.....

I know I traded two 92 computers with each other because 1 car would crank but not start ( no fire condition ) Changing with each other did me no good in getting the one car to start. It was later determind to be a shorted out wire.

On the bright side it did get rid of the check engine light on the one car though.

If you have coil twin coil pack I would check the plug connection as well first.
