I have an 88 2.3L Hatch, but I dont want to be "stuck" with the stock HP. What is the cheapest way to get horsepower, im a highschool student so I dont have much money to spend, but I would like to have more then the stock 88HP.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

STICKERS! Stickers allways add about 20hp per! And they only cost about $5 each!

Other than that, get a fart cannon and a 3 foot tall spoiler and that'll give you bragging rights and let you win EVERY street race you'll ever be in!

I wouldn't even bother adding parts to the 4cyl. mustang

save the money for a 5.0 swap.

There is no such thing as cheap horsepower. Also, A cold air intake isnt going to make any major difference. Save your money, and buy a faster car on down the road. No matter what you do to your present engine, it is still going to be a relatively slow car.

I have always been led to believe that nitrous is the cheapest substantial HP for the dollar but then I have always been too lazy to verify!

When looking at it from a purely $$$ to hp ratio, yes nitrous is your best bang for the buck. But with him having a 4 cylinder he is going to be limited to a rather small shot size and the extra power it would give really wouldnt be worth the risk of scattering the engine. Also, while a nitrous kit may give you 100 rwhp for only about $500 or so, most people do not take in to consideration that extra $30 to $40 every time the bottle gets empty. The cost of bottle refills really do add up and in the long term scheme of things making nitrous less econimical that it sounds initially.

Remove the intake silencer, if it is there. A free flowing muffler would certainly help. Might try advancing the base timing a little...
