I have 89 mustang gt with about 25000 miles, the car is driven a couple times a month, the car is completely stock and runs perfect, recently i got a check oil light indicator which surprised me because the oil was changed about 9 months and 600 miles ago,i had to put in 3/4 of a quart to bring up to the proper amount, when i do drive the car i do run it hard, but being down that much oil seems strange, whats happening?

Might be the rear seal is leaking, seems to be a poretty common thing to happen to these older cars. Only real way to know is to get under the car and start searching for the leak!

The other thing you can do is put a big piece of cardboard under the car while it is sitting and check it from time to time. This way you will be able to find the leak better by looking at the drip pattern.

Thanks for the suggestions, but i checked numerous times and there are no leaks at all,the car basically stays in the location all the time so i would notice any leaks,is it just possible that it could burn that much oil?

If you can't find the oil leak in the engine comp. you might want to check out valve seals! Usually the rubber seals dry out when they get old, or not used much. [lubricated] 25,000 miles for an 89 is not a lot of miles.

Well make sure to check things like the coolant an anywhere else the oil could have gone. We had a van at my office that was eating oil and yet none of it was ending up on the ground. I mean like 8 quarts dissappeared in a week! We found out that there was a crack in a hose positioned just right so that it was going into the coolant overflow tank. Not saying this is what is happening with your car but I would just check all around the engine for signs of where it could be going.

Thanks for the suggestion,as a matter fact i just checked the coolant, thats including the actually radiator and the overflow bottle and both checked out perfect i even tested the coolant and it also was perfect, again it's not a crazy amount of oil that i am talking about and maybe the lack of consistent usage of the car possibly that may have something to do with it.
