Building up my stock 5.0
Building up my stock 5.0
Have a 93 5.0 and it is currently all stock. I am in the process of restoring the interior of this car and i want to beef up my engine and under the hood to make it faster. Any advice on where to start to build my car up ? Any help is appreciated as I am new to restoring and rebuilding. Thanks Shane
They are both good.if you are going forced induction I would think about forged internals and may even main trays and valley girdels.they are not neccesary but help keep your motor together with the added power.I would check out emmetheadperformance for used interior pieces and late model restoration for new stuff.late model has good prices on carpet, door panels etc. They also have good color match paint for restoring the plastics.

I personally think the rear end gears are one of the top priorities. Like stated above though once you give us a little better idea of where you want the car to be. An example,4.10 gear would not be the best choice for a turbo car. They usually perform a little better with something closer to a 3.55 and that all depends on which route you take with the car. Look foward to seeing the build!
Adding girdles is a total waste. A low boost kit isn't going to anything to the block and once you go over over the hp threshold of the block all the gridles in the world will not matter. If you are going to build an H/C/I boosted motor you need to invest an a good aftermarket block like a dart, world ,etc. there is no way around it. That said the gains of a low boost kit on stock headed fox are meh and about what you would get or just under what a good H/C/I would give.
Add gears like stated, bump your timing, SFCs and read the tech thread for other info.
Part sources: 50resto, National parts depot ( they do fox stuff now) , Fox Mustang restoration, Performance parts, inc for starters. I have a bunch more fox restoration sources of needed.
I have to get my head back into thinking stangs again after 2wks in FLA in vaca and my wife told me no computer at all

the system can be picked up for around 500$ to get a good block like you listed is considerably more.with parts i meantioned can keep you safe until about 600hp.but i agree if you have the money starting with a better block is better.my choice of blocks would be the boss 302 block.
The lower end and block is good for just over 500hp like most of us know. most pretty much now the mods it takes to make a N/A non stroked sbf and it will not reach those levels, next a N/A stroked SBF still would be under those numbers so the next move would be boost. it is easy to build a boosted non stroked sbf under those hp levels but even a girdled boosted motor is living on borrowed time. The point is it is easy to build under the hp threshold and then jump over it, running it right on it is risky part. If you are going to take the time to build a high HP level motor with a stouter lower end, expensive turbo or super charger kit and all the supporting mods then run the proper block or go with a 351.
In truth though most people should take a 350-400rwhp fox for a ride down a track...heck I'll even toss 300rwhp in the mix. Most newer folks focus on hp numbers, etc. but a 400rwhp fox is a nasty little ride and the motor will take it all day long!!
i see your point.and i am definatley not diagreeing.i was just giving the cheaper option which we all know is not always the best ! lol. IMO the girdle system should not be pushed to its boundary.

Id say the cheapest way to get the most power quick would be upgrading your intake manifold and throttle body along with intake and headers. But if you have some money to dump id go straight to pro charger and then go from there along with what was posted above me.
pushing a supercharger or turbo thru the stock heads is a waste IMHO. budget build GT40 inatke, GT40P heads, MAF, TB, Headers, and other supporting mods then worry about adding a kit even a good qauilty top end kit or aluminum heads, cam will still come in around the price or cheaper than a quality turbo or SC kit and provide the same or more hp than a system with stock heads/cam. once you add a good kit on a decent headed motor now we are talking about something.
