Best powerplant for a fox builded

I am fixing to retrieve a 87 coupe mustang, and in the market of doing a engine build within the year. I am looking to be around the 700-800 horsepower range, hopefully running low 9s. Price range is around 12k for the engine, maybe alittle more with a power adder most likely a turbo. I have a 2011 GT ATM but fixing to trade in so I know alittle about the coyote motor, but some people said go with a 331 stroker but idk.. any input will help thanks.

You'll probably end up punching out and stroking a 351W block to 400+ cubic inch if you want to make that kind of horsepower. That means a serious transmission and a 9 inch rear end as well.

You'll most likely want a 351W based build to start with using a Dart block. Thats what I'd use at least. You could get away with a 331 running lots of boost, but I don't know how street-able it would be, if that even matters. The price difference going with the bigger displacement won't be much. A 9 inch rear would be smart if you ever plan on going faster, building a rear & spending money once is always the best bet, but people run into the 9's with 8.8's. It's just all in how its built.

Look into having FordStrokers build the motor(unless you already have someone in mind) Woody is one of the best.

No love for the 460? A 460 based engine will make those numbers NA easily on pump gas. You wont ever be able to pass a gas station tho. Lol

I'm having a 427 stroker built as we speak . With iron heads will be in the 500 HP range at the crank. If I put on the Afr 225 would be around 650 HP.
