hci= heads cam intake.
gt40 heads will match your intake and help the budget,but there are alot better heads out there like afr,trickflow,edelbrock just to name a few.

I prefer it. Decided to try it in my old notch and was very impressed. Very nice sound at idle and performance was great.

Find a set of GT40P heads for a budget build with a trick flow stage 1 cam, its a winning combo. I would even look at AFR and wedge heads with a comp XE270HR (also works good with "P" heads). I also like anderson cams..http://www.andersonfordmotorsport.com/ for off the shelf stuff.

also read in the tech section on the write up on explorer intakes. The '00 intake is setup for external egr and no boss in #5 runner for act sensor, it can be worked around if very careful. also have info on GT40 heads.

Yep skunk it sounds like a good set up!!! Also to be honest I been reading about the explorer intake swap and all the things that has to be done and feel a lil nervious I really taught it was a full bolt on but its realy not but I also think that as soon I take the factory one and label eveything carefuly everything will flow easy but since maybe going to a full h-c-I swap I really going to need a experience mechanic onside.

The earlier explorer intake would have been ideal and is a bolt on pretty much teh later one are not but you will have to work around it. The cams I gave you are all great cams. You will need a set of 1.6 roller rockers if you go with "P" heads they do not come with them and good idea to upgrade the valve springs. also upgrade the fuel pump to atleast a 155lph and add 24lb injectors upgrade the maf, etc. then a tune be it dyno ( which I prefer) tweecer, etc. you can search some recent posts on maf upgrades and other stuff. later start thinking about gears.

It seems more intimidating that it really is.I would get a good manual ( haynes/chilton).just take your time.take pictures if needed of how all the pieces go.I like to bag and label my bolts that I take off for each part seperatley.before u get started do lots of studying and read how 2s and u should be able to do it.plus if u get stuck u always have us here. good luck

before you buy post the list of things you are looking to get. This way we kinda have an idea what you are looking at for one and if you are making a wise move or missing things. nothing wrong with getting has much input/info, even more so if you are a little wet behind the ears so to speak

I don't use or by into the spacer. some people use them most I know don't bother, snake oil IMO. if you want to spend the money I won't stop you, but yeah just look for the kit or gasket set for cobra/gt40 intake.

The phenolic spacer could still be useful - if you have roller rockers and are unable or unwilling to reuse the stock valve covers, the spacer helps give more upper intake manifold/taller valve cover clearance. Just be aware of hood clearance.
