I'd like to see how many people out there are interested in the 2.3l mustangs, and not just for parts, or to put a 5.0 in! Their so easy to put a Turbo motor, in. but they dont get no respect, and i'd almost rather have a turbo four over a 5.0.

You obviously have not been exposed to the dirt track racers who exclusively use N/A 2.3's...have you? You can make ANYTHING fast...with enough money

okay, in all seriousness, how can u make a 2.3 na ford I4 fast? so many limited cubes. The turbos make the 2.3 recognized.

Start hanging around dirt track racers who run the pony class and you'll find out. I have never had any interest in that but they do everything from stroking them to head work and cams....and they run carb's on them. They get some pretty good numbers from those engines considering what they start with.

True the turbo models make them recognised, but like Paul said you can make anything go fast with enough money.

Take a Motorsport block, and stroke it to ~3L then add a good bottom end and some compression, some Esslinger heads and decent exhaust, and them you'll have some horsepower. Maybe not as much as a motor w/more cylinders/displacement, but if you wanna be different..... Or take that combo, lower the compression and add lots of boost!. And i had another idea - a supercharger for more torque, and maybe a turbo with it for top end power.

No thanks, dirt racing isnt my thing. The whole point of what i said was that a common person cannot make a 2.3 go fast in na form. thats why they arent popular.

I don't know a whole lot about 2.3's but SVO's are some pretty mean little cars!
awesome car rick!

oh and I have a friend with a '91 ranger with a 2.3l and he wants to modify it instead of buying a 302 because of gas mileage. Can we tune it to the same specs as an SVO 4cylinder or is this 2.3 differ way too much?

yo.... those dirt track racers sound pretty sweet!

edit: and truth be told, i actually hope to someday have a mustang II 2.3L notch to turbo and soup up. i love unique cars that are underappreciated

Dirt racing doesn't have to be your "thing" to get an understanding of making power out of a 2.3....if you are interested in finding out and learning then that is your avenue.

...and you really need to take a look at the dirt racing scene...those people are more the "common person" than you assume they are....

This is grassroots racing by "common people" not the high dollar sponsorship racing like NASCAR....
