Another dumb one to ask.,,

But hey thats what i do! So i pretty much need to take my heads off and see if i have a burnt valve or a gasket issue. Can i take my (aluminum heads gtx40) heads off and then just bolt them down and go or i need to set timing adjust valves or what? Im not very familiar with the valvetrain and timing. I took my intake out and cleaned for new gasket but need to take heads off now. Please retard oriented instruccions are welcome. Thanks

Cool

The valves are most likely OK. The head gaskets could be bad. Just make sure you have a good torque wrench and torque the head bolts to the specs your head manufacturer recommends. Replace the head gaskets with Teflon coated head gaskets. Aluminum heads expand at a different rate than the cast iron block and need the Teflon gaskets. Did the previous owner torque the head bolts to specs ?

Thank you guys, i did a comp test and all cylinders are good and very very close in numbers. Also the intake manifold gasket came in today and i am not sure about tis two little extra gasket parts? Where do they go? Do they need to be in there? Why 4 when i can see only two places where they might go? Thanks

Im thinking if all the ports are even, and one is slightly different, maybe its a shim to make up the difference? Just guessing. Send a pic of the intake manifold if ya got one

Almost looks like the cross looking section in the middle is where they go. Sort of looks like you can either have a hole their in some intakes and not in others possibly

I think LivinTheStangLife is correct. The small piece of gasket with the whole in it would be used if you had a street head and wanted heat to flow into the intake to warm the carburetor more quickly. If you wanted to block off the heat to the carb in race applications , you would use the solid piece to cover the whole in the head below the cross part of the head gasket. Heads designed for racing often do not have a hole in the head under the cross part of the intake gasket and probably would not require either one of the small pieces in your picture.

Question

Good to hear your Mustang is running so strong. I like the intake gasket you installed. What brand is it ?
