I need help. I have a 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 and I want to remove the air silencer. The only problem is, I am an idiot when it comes to repairs; i'm just as likely to remove the headlight. If anyone can give me Step-by-step directions (use little words, please), I would really appreciate it. BTY this is a great web site.

I cant remember how to do it, but u have to get underneath the car, where the air goes in, it is inbetween the inner and outer fender.

It's been awhile since I did the removal to my 89 and 91 GTs, but IIRC, the silencer is located behind the air filter housing. The filter housing needs to be removed, and the silencer is, like you said between the inner and outer fenders. It should have some nuts to remove and I think you can slip it though the hole in the inner fender where the filter housing is. Like I said, it's been 14 years (!) since I did that, so I could be wrong. HTH!

Update:
Nice day in Connecticut today, temp in 40's. I figured out how to remove air silencer. Held in by three bolts; first two are viible above the air filter compartment; however, have to remove air filter housing to access third bolt.
Hardest part was snaking silencer out through the opening at bottom of quarter panel.
Noticable inmprovement in HP and response time in acceleration! Wish I had done this 10 years ago. Thanks for your help, guys!

Thanks for the update....(not the update on the weather either! ) on removing your silencer. It's nice when people follow up on their posts . Now I, and perhaps others, know whats involved in removing the silencer.

So, when exactly was the last time you removed one Doug? I mean, first you can't remember, and then you blow about it being a 5 minute job......

hey, take it easy :nono:
I have never done it, but family has (uncles and Father) so they knew how and it has been awhile sine someone i know has done it or i have seen it done. No need to be that way, i dont mean to do any harm, just trying to help people. It is a simple job, I cant remember HOW to do it though, but i do know it was a simple quick job.
