86 Smog Pump Removal
#3
I've never done it and don't know anyone who has but I don't think it would be too difficult to achieve. The hardest (most time consuming) part might be taking all the air tubes off but I really don't know. Lots of aftermarket companies make an eliminator kit that gives you a nice looking idler pulley and prolly instructions.
Pros would be increase in power, slight weight loss.
Cons would be emissions-illegal in most states, might cause a back-fire condition since no more fresh air would be pumped into the cats.

check your local restrictions and if you can get away with not having it then just bypass it and leave it there but unhook the hoses. That is what is done to ours. Id like to take it off but I dont know if it will pass since ive heard that all original equipment must be on the car but it will pass without cats. Some states, like NC, only require you to have emissions testing on OBD II (1996-2006+) models and anything earlier can run with no cats (and possibly other things not working). THey just have to pass a safety test.
