5 or 6 speed

So it's time to upgrade from the tired t-5, I'm really looking to build this car for top-end performance. What am i betteer off going with? How well does the T-56 or the new T-56 Magnum for that matter, fit into a fox? Is the extra gear worth it? or should i get a tko 500/600 instead. It's a big dollar purchase and i don't want to be disappointed after i do. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

i cant give any preferences but the T56 will for sure fit in the fox. you'll need either a special belhousing or adapter plate though.

also, I've heard good things about the magnum..

The Magnum is basically a T-56 shell with T6060 internals. Like Arin said, you'll need a bellhousing, but other than that and getting a shortened driveshaft, you should be good to go.

Think you may need to look into either modifying or getting a specific rear mount for that application if not included. Definitely should get away from the weaksauce 10-spline input shaft. IIRC, versions like the Corvette/Viper-spec T-56 have at least 26-spline ones. Of course this means changing the clutch to match as well.

It's weird that the Viper Spec T-56 is more expensive than the Magnum... I wonder what the differences are exactly. Arin swears to me that the gears in the Viper spec are "not what a Mustang needs." Peter say- If it's good enough for a Viper, it's good enough for me. It just means that the car needs a V-10.

I've read alot of threads saying that the way the gears are spaced out do not feel good in our cars. I'll take the magnum 8 days a week

Peter is just dumb because he lusts after a Viper and would be happy just saying "oh its viper spec" all the time

keep in mind that i'm trying to go 200mph, so that viper spec gearing is probably what i'm looking for, i asked the same question on another site and general concensus was viper spec t-56 w/ a 26-spline input and quicktime bellhousing, or the new magnum with correct gear set. does anyone make a good application specific crossmember? i remember hpm and kenny brown both used to make one, curious if they are compatible with the magnum

I've heard a lot of good things about these transmissions. I plan on building an 89 GT (can't decide on a hatchback or a notch) and will be using the magnum matched with "T and L" direct replacement 347 Stroker Engine. I'm about 80% sure that they will match up.
