351w conversion

Hi there,
I just got my second notch earlier this week. My first one was a 89lx notch with a 5.0 with some bolt ons. The one I just recently got is a 93 notch with a 2.3l 4 banger automatic. I want to throw a 351w in it but don't know exactly what I need, anybody out there done this swap before?

Are you going fuel injected or carb? Would probably op for 302 stroked with trickflow fixins.

I have a 351 in my 90 lx ...if I remember right when it was dropped in...needed a dif oil pan & fly wheel...other than that it went in pretty smoothly

Try Holcomb motorsports, Im putting a 351w into my '86. So far all ive needed is the oil pan kit for the conversion. If you find a complete motor, then you'll be ok, if you are building from a block then make sure you use the right flywheel and balancer (the newer 302/5.0 are a 50 oz imbalance, the 289, older 302 (pre 82 i think) and 351w are 28 oz imbalance). You can also buy new motor mounts that drop the engine about an inch lower into the k member since the 351 is taller and wider than the 302.

This, they've had 351 kits for awhile, even FRPP has a kit IIRC. Anyways, pretty easy swap. Also IIRC, using the drop mounts allows the use of any injected intake (sans a spacer) without the need for a cowl hood.

Oil pan kit, got it. What about for the fuel pick up? I've been looking for an older mustang fuel pick up assembly but can't find one, what can I do here since I'm building a carb'd set up?

Its pricey, but you can always go with an Aeromotive tank (the old style tank is 18601) or the newer Stealth Tank (if they have a carb app) if an older carbed pick-up/tank does not show up.

I sumped my tank, the sump I got from Mustangs unlimited and welded it on. you might be able to find someone to weld it on for a decent price. if you don't want to go that route, google the swap and you'll find how it's done with the factory pump removed and rubber hose and aluminum tubing. doesn't seem hard, just alot to write on here.
