1991 GT
I am only a year out of college and fairly new to purchasing my own cars. I am looking for a good project Mustang however my funds are not the greatest right now. I happened on a 1991 Mustang GT 5.0L in the paper listed for $2300 and the ad says it looks and runs good. I am going to call him to take a look at it tonight. What are some good and bad things I should look for when I go see it to help me decide whether or not to purchase it? Any advice would be appreciated.
Hey Frank-
Hello and Welcome!
Here is a link to a thread that I think will help your cause.

I tried to answer some question for another guy regarding a 'fox' purchase.
There are others on this site who may/could provide you with some additional information.

Best thing is to just drive it first to see that it actually runs and drives as good as advertised. Then if your more serious about it tell him you would like to setup a time to have your mechanic look at the car, if the guy is honest he should have no problems with that.
I bought the car. Had my friend who re-built an '86 check it out and he said it was a no brainer. It was a 91 LX 5.0L with the notchback. Very little rust, engine ran well but definatly needs a tune up and a few other things. For the price I had to go for it. I couldn't believe the guy only wanted $2300. I picked it up for $2200! :drive:

Here is the picture. I am going to take off that Saleen wing they had on it and replace it with a stock one. I think I am going to leave the fiberglass hood, at least for now. Its definatly going to need to be repainted though.
Good Deal. Looks good. Congratulations! I just sold my 90 LX 5.0 Hatchback for 2300. Now that I see yours I want mine back. But alas, I will be in the throws of 2005 Mustang GT bliss in a few short months.
I was looking for a notch when I got my 91 GT hatch. Notches are hard to find around here. While I was looking, I saw 1 notch in the paper for 5K, it was sold by noon the day it hit the paper.
Looks like you got a pretty sweet deal in my book. I can't say I'm crazy about the color, but to each his own. I'll give you 2500 for it :-)
Good call on the wing too.

I just don't care for the look of the Saleen wing on this car, and becides, the last owner just screwed it into the hood with what looks like regular carpenter type screws.
I want to patch up the holes and put the stock wing on it before I eventually re-paint it.
