1987 lincoln continental qs

so my friend dan owns this car and we decided to put the bullitts fronts waybar on it today. i figured this was a better place to post this since general Ford chat is less active and this is a fox platform car lol. two issues:

the first is that the bolts on the u shaped supports fort he swaybar just kept spinning. i know there is no retaining nut on my car but is there one on older fox cars? i dont remember this being an issue on my car. until we find a way to get those off project lincoln is on hiatus.

the other q isn't super important but we encountered this accordion thing with wires coming out of it and i had never seen it before. picture below. for curiosity's sake, anyone know what this is/does? its ont he rear facing side of the spring and on both sides.

thanks in advance guys!

Is this a Mark VII? Could be that the car had airbag suspension swapped out for coils. That rubber piece may be a left-over item from the air ride... a leveling sensor perhaps???

Nope its a continental not a Mark VII. And the car is bone stock lol. Cliche little old lady owned it and only drove it occasionally (less than 25k on the clock!)

I just have no idea what it is lol. my friend is back home with his family though, so tinkering on this car is paused.
