1982 fuses
Hey forum! I need some help on my car. My windshield wipers and washer aren't working, I took the wiper and washer fuse out from under the steering wheel, its not the normal, "10" or "15" fuse. Any ideas on how I check if its blown? Any other things I should check on the car? Any comments would be appreciated!

Idk about the fuses but i went to a parts store and they were basically like "haha... Not we don't have those fuses". My wipers died and i had to replace my wiper motor. Now they're flawless. Could be motor is blown

That's actually a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. Ford used those in many of their cars and trucks, so if you can't find one at a parts store you should be able to find one in a junkyard. They don't go bad very often, so it may be your wiper motor. They're meant to protect your windshield wiper motor in case your wipers are frozen to the windshield or something like that. They trip and then automatically reset after the element inside the breaker cools down.

Napa has them for around $35 if I remember correctly. Also auto value stores carry them. Mine went bad over the summer because I had a windshield leak that was leaking onto the fuse box. I took mine out and took it apart and found it to be rusty on the inside. I cleaned up the contacts with some sandpaper and dabbed some dielectric grease on it and reinstall. Its been working like a charm ever since.

Ok, I took it out and apart. It had something on the contact points, looked like battery acid. I filed them a bit to remove it, put it back in and they still dont work.

Do you have a test light? If there's a gap, try testing each terminal of the circuit breaker with it plugged in. If the test probe lights on both sides, try testing the motor leads. If it tests ok there, I would suspect the motor. If the motor leads have no power, I would suspect the control switch. If you're still unable to isolate the fault, post a new message and I'll look into more details like specific wires and such.
