What can you tell me about your radiator? It looks to be wider then stock. I'm having cooling isues with my 65 even after trying several different things. What brand radiator is it?

Radiator ; I think I share your pain. Allow me to go details on this ;


Both the FANGs and I live in a very warm climate country. Hence, the best to keep the temp down is to GO BIG.

The radiator you see is a locally made one. I started by measuring the widest area I could fit the radiator in. I ended up with the lenght that was almost double to the original.

On the radiator itself, It's something we call " 2-layer " of cooling tube as it would let the air flow better than the typical 3 layers.

Then the stock engine fan was out. I need all the air flow I could get by use a twin 12" electric fan with the custom shroud. The fans have 2 speeds ; the engine turns and both the fans start, and when the temp gets to 76 degree celcius ( approx. 169 Degree Fahrenheit ) the fans fast speed will kick in and will cool the water down to around 70 degree celcius...and the fans speed will go back to slower mode. ) I use a 76-70 Celcius thermostat.

( Below pic ) The brass thing is the thermostat that need to install anywhere from top of the radiator or on the hose between the engine and the radiator. It helps control speed of the electric fans ( The upper hose is better as it transfer the hottest water ... but it's an eye-sore ! )

I need an air conditioner to keep me and my passenger cool & comfort, but those twin electric fans would not help much, so I installed another 2 small & thin electric fans in front of the air cond radiator.

Now, I have 4 electric fans ; 2 suck-in for water radiator and 2 blow-to for air cond radiator.

With the above 4 fans + other electric gadgets , the electric current use-up is very high, I chose a high ampere alternator ( 90 amp. / 14 volts ) to reduce my worry.


( Below pic ) An altenator .. 90 amp. / 14 Volts by BOSCH gives good amount of electric current

So far, water temp is under control = engine run fine. While air cond works well , me and my passenger are in the good mood !

Man, you have a pretty good cooling setup there George!

I was thinking about installing this Radiator in my 65. Only I would have to have the core support trimed, and I'm not sure if I want to do that?

Man, that's a real killer radiator right there !


Instead of the core support trim, which you don't like the idea, how'bout get extra brackets , a strong ones , so there is no need to cut / trim anything. I mean if the is enough space to adjust the radiator a little !


I also see the fans have 2-wire , meaning that they have one speed. But if you ask them for the 3-wire fans I'm sure it will be a better choice.


The fans set - up will be like this ( for 3-wire fan ) ;


* Once the ignition is on, both fans will turn at normal speed

* But once the temp hit the high note, then the fans' fast speed will kick in.


By doing this, they have to supply you a good thermostat, in the range of 86 - 80 degree celcius or slightly lower. Meaning this thermostat will help switch on the fast speed .


This set up is different from the typical set up that let the fan runs one at the time. Example ; if fan # 1 is on all the time, and fan # 2 will only run when temp is hitting the mark. It won't be effective as fan # 1 will also suck air through fan # 2 since it is not working.





BTW, please ask the radiator guy if you need a larger capacity alternator, also size and other
recommendations.




So, I sincerely hope you are able to fix the problems and bring back the joy of driving !

Thanks for the advice George! I think I might go for a different radiator/electric fan setup close to what you are talking about. That big radiator that I showed you would require the fan support to be cut, so I going to stay away from that untill I have too.
