I am trying to get the biggest tires i can fit on a 1966 coupe with out having to modify the car at all. I am thinking about 15x8 wheels i think thats the biggest i can put on it but i dunno. I am mainly concerned with the rear. Yes there with me back seat riders... if you have a good wheel/tire set up let me know what has worked for you. also i am thinking about Cragar S/S wheels. i would also like your opinion on those. Basicly any info i can get on wheels and tires for a red 1966 coupe.

I use a 16 x 8 with a 4 1/2" off-set and 245 tires. It seems to work pretty good. My Friend uses a 15 x 7 with similar width tire. here are some pics

I wish I had a better shot of the rear of my car, but this will give you the idea.

Funny you ask this question. I was just getting on the boards to ask the same one! LOL! I think I like the 15x7's it looks like there is more meat on the road. Little beefier. I'm swaying towards 15x7 Cragars with spinners and some nice BF Goodrich tires with white letters. KGSGT350, does your friend have any problems with rubbing when he turns his wheel? Did either of you have to set any spacers in there to clear stearing and suspension parts?

I was looking on the cover of an old mustang monthly. They had a 69 GT500 featured. He has the original size and tire rims that match the car. I can't really tell, but they look like Mag500's. If so, they would have been 15x7 which really looks perfect.

Great color choice by the way, KGSGT350. That's the color scheme I'm using on my car right now. She's stripped and I'm doing the final touches on the body work. She'll have the paint quite soon. Love the white stripes. I'm going to take the time and do mine Lemans style too. When you did your paint, was that the factory Tahoe color? I'm interrested to see how mine will dry before I finish.

Good luck on the wheels Shibbie. I'll be watching this post closely. I just got my car up onto 5 lugs, and I'm anxious to get some nice rims.

StangerX, his wheels do not rub. No spacers or anything like that. The fenders are rolled a bit though.

Regarding my paint, it is actually call Sapphire Blue. It wasn't a mustang color. I believe it was a thunderbird color call bright blue metallic. The paint scheme you see is the way it came from Shelby American.

by the way, thanks!

The '66 I'm getting has Cragar S/S's on it. Couldn't tell you the size off the top of my head (15x7 probably), but they look AMAZING. Mine is also white, so take that into account as far as appearance goes.

I'll get my buddy to take a couple with his digital camera sometime this weekend, if the guy selling it won't mind. The most I've done as far as archiving the car is a quick 90-second walkaround of the car with my camcorder that I've watched roughly 100 times.

I have always thought the spinners looked cooler on the old cars. That's EXACTLY what I'm putting on mine after I get through my paint and body stuff and get that 9" put in.

on the early models like ours, the Steel Stylized also looks great. You can get spinners on those too, but I'm not sure I've ever seen them on there. My buddy Vintage302 has them on his (minus spinners), and It's a great look for the classic setup.

I've seen a ton of folks go with the torque thrusts, and I just don't think they look quite right. My money is on the Cragars w/ Spinners. Just looks classic. As it should... those were the first rims you could buy! Hot roders everywhere remember the old Cragars! Can't go wrong with that look... or the price.

Here's a pretty good chart that shows what other people are running. Be a little wary though, as it depends on people being accurate with their submissions - if only ONE person os claiming to run a 10-inch wheel, for instance, while everybody else is running 8's...................

Here's a picture of my 17 x 8 combination...
