I have a three row copper/brass 20" rad in my 289 without a shroud and I never have overheating problems. I have Auto, AC, PS. and live in the south.

my fathers convertible is almost bone stock, and actually still has the original radiator in it. his boss 302 has a stock re-core. Both run fine. I know the convertible could use a re-core and flush. I think a cheaper aluminum rad would be more than enough to cool a street car.

190 in 91 degree weather is great, I wouldn't worry about it at all. Ford Racing told me I should run my new motor at 220, Thats just to high makes me a bit
uncomfortable.

i have never heard of 190 being too high. And at 220ish your not going to hurt anything. i would say if your scraping 200 while idling a while, i wouldnt worry about it.

I run the stock radiator and have A/C. Only time it gets hot is if I sit in stop and go traffic for a while, otherwise it runs at normal operating condition all the time. I have a friend with a hopped up 67 Chevelle that runs a Griffin aluminum radiator, seems pleased enough with it.

Royal Purple Ice

I think that your temp is ok as well. You might try some Royal Purple Ice which helps the radiator heat.. (see ebay add below).

Purple Ice is a high performance, synthetic, radiator coolant additive for both gasoline and diesel engines. It is formulated to reduce the surface tension of the coolant, which improves heat transfer through the cooling system while providing additional protection against rust, corrosion and erosion.
Purple Ice prevents the formation of scale deposits in the radiator for optimum coolant flow and lubricates the seals of the water pump. It is ideal for use in straight water racing applications or in antifreeze / water mixtures.
Purple Ice is compatible with traditional ethylene glycol antifreeze (green) and GM Dex-Cool® antifreeze coolants.
http://www.royalpurple.com/images/techtip.gifPurple Ice should not be used in new radiators until anti-freeze has been cycled through the system. Contact Royal Purple’s Technical Support department for more information at 888-382-6300

Reduces Coolant Temperatures
Extensive testing confirms Purple Ice reduces coolant temperatures better than comparable products while providing extra corrosion protection. For example, the average operating temperature of a 350 c.i.d. V8 engine (equipped with 160° thermostat) when dyno-tested with different coolants are:
A.
Standard mix of water and glycol (antifreeze)
228° F
B.
50 / 50 water / glycol mix with Purple Ice™ added
222° F
C.
Straight water (no corrosion protection)
220° F
D.
Water with Purple Ice™ added
200° F
