I have two 289 cars that i'm looking at now.

Car 1: 289 Fastback, automatic, one owner, factory air, fully restored. asking price of around $24,000
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Car 2: 289 fastback, automatic, VINTAGE PAXTON SUPERCHARGER, EDELBROCK PERFORMER INTAKE ,TRANS,REAR END & SUSPENSION HAVE BEEN DONE OVER .FOLDING REAR SEAT WOOD WHEEL ,PAXTON BOOST GAUGE, SUN TACK ,PS. DISC BRAKES,MSD IGNITION. asking price of around $27,000
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...TRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Both of these prices seem a bit high, but i think i can talk the price down, especially with cash. check out the links and tell me what you guys think. i was originally looking for a 390, but it sounds like the 289 engine is more reliable and easier to handle, and i can do a lot of upgrades on it to achieve power.

any feedback is appreciated.

thanks,
rob

I think while both are nice cars, they both have a severe case of Elenitis causing dillusional pricing.

That being said I guess if I was bent on buying one of them I would have to consider which is closer since I wouldn't pay half that for a car on ebay that was sight unseen. Otherwise, if everything else on the cars were equal I'd proabbly opt for the vintage supercharger unit as they alone usually fetch a pretty penny.

I'm not sure what Classic Corral got for his car, but it had the 390 and was pretty sharp and I'm pretty sure it was priced below these.

Car 1 sounds more original than car 2, so if you desire to mod a car, car 2 may be the better choice. Plus having the supercharger on it is pretty cool. I personally like car 1 better though. Either way, you will have a very nice car with either.

My budget is pretty flexible. I don't mind spending $25-$30,000 but if I spend that much I want to get something perfect. Best case scenario i'd like to spend between $15-$20,000. I like the fact that the car has the supercharger, but i like the look (green with black leather) of the first car a lot better. I guess I could always pick up the car with the supercharger and change the paint eventually and maybe do a eleanor or bullitt clone. that car that Jay posted looks beautiful, but i'm not crazy about the white and would like an original engine.

thanks for the help, keep the replies and any other leads coming!

Just FYI, but it's vinyl, not leather.

I like the looks of that Green car much better. If I had the money to buy either that is the one I'd choose. And if you were to do a bullitt clone the paint is already there for ya. I'd be very wary of buying a car I'd never seen before. There is a good story on ClassicMustang.com about someones experience buying a Car he only saw pictures of. If both of those car pan out to be what the seller says you'll soon have a great looking car if ya get either of them. Good Luck

Did the vintage Paxton superchargers use a serpentine belt? That sure looks like one on the car now.

Sounds like somebody has a case of clonophobia.

You know, you might be better off getting a car that isn't perfect for 1/4 of that price and having it built to YOUR specs. That way, you woudn't get surprised by hidden rust, shortcuts and such.

Just an idea.

Paul,
I agree with that. But I think the original poster is looking for a turn key.
