They had low HP ratings, but they helped the mustang survive the 70s gas crunch. Otherwise, it may have gone the way of most 60s muscle cars.

Yep, I agree with Rob. I really do not like the II's, but I value their contribution in keeping the Mustang going through a crisis that killed most other musclecars. Look at the GTO, they are resurrecting it now!!

Good on the II's, bloody ugly, but without them, I probably wouldn't be driving my car now!

i kinda dig 'em, for their loox at least. i mean c'mon, you have to admit, the '78 King Cobras were some kickAZZ cars...to look at. plus, whose to stop you from droppin a big old Fuel injected 4.6L into it to have the loox match the power.

but the only problem is that its near impossible to find a good quality KC in CA

I drove a '76 in the early 90's, and had some fun. But I was in the repair shop just as much.

Ya I guess your right. They did get the mustang through the 70's. I do have to admire them for that. They are sstill pretty bad though.

Sometimes you have to take the bad with the good.

Mustang IIs weren't the best looking Mustang, but they wern't the worst either. At least they looked like a Mustang, unlike the 71-73s... They're pretty light, and with a little work, a built up 302 can swapped in for a pretty fast unique car...

MustangII's look nice with a fine paintjob, and some bigger wheels. I like them

The Mustang II's with V-8 had 137 HP stock. I've had mine since '79 and blew a connecting rod in 2000. Put in a Ford rebuilt 302 that has 200 HP. Just like any car, different body styles, colors and options appeal to different people and cause different opinions.

As for mileage, I get around 12 miles to a gallon on my '78. My '05 GT is getting around 19-20 miles to a gallon. The body on my '78 is lightweight so it can get out of the hole pretty fast. It's a 3 speed automatic, so obviously I won't win the distance race but if you're talking stoplight to stoplight, I'll give you a run for the money in my '78. Now my new '05 is a different story. I swear it has a "go baby go" feature in the accelerator pedal.

My first one was an orange one. I told the tale in a post. I LOVE the IIs. I guess it's only because it was my first car, but I had a lot of fun in it, even though it was in the shop more than in my driveway...

I sure wish I had one today. Then I'd put a "modern" computerized 93 5.0 and T-5 in it. That would roxors.

/one day...

Another fan of the "II" and I think they are a
good starting point for making a restomod car.
