Yep, I agree with Rob. I really do not like the II's, but I value their contribution in keeping the Mustang going through a crisis that killed most other musclecars. Look at the GTO, they are resurrecting it now!!
Good on the II's, bloody ugly, but without them, I probably wouldn't be driving my car now!

i kinda dig 'em, for their loox at least. i mean c'mon, you have to admit, the '78 King Cobras were some kickAZZ cars...to look at. plus, whose to stop you from droppin a big old Fuel injected 4.6L into it to have the loox match the power.
but the only problem is that its near impossible to find a good quality KC in CA

Mustang IIs weren't the best looking Mustang, but they wern't the worst either. At least they looked like a Mustang, unlike the 71-73s... They're pretty light, and with a little work, a built up 302 can swapped in for a pretty fast unique car...

The Mustang II's with V-8 had 137 HP stock. I've had mine since '79 and blew a connecting rod in 2000. Put in a Ford rebuilt 302 that has 200 HP. Just like any car, different body styles, colors and options appeal to different people and cause different opinions.
As for mileage, I get around 12 miles to a gallon on my '78. My '05 GT is getting around 19-20 miles to a gallon. The body on my '78 is lightweight so it can get out of the hole pretty fast. It's a 3 speed automatic, so obviously I won't win the distance race but if you're talking stoplight to stoplight, I'll give you a run for the money in my '78. Now my new '05 is a different story. I swear it has a "go baby go" feature in the accelerator pedal.

My first one was an orange one. I told the tale in a post. I LOVE the IIs. I guess it's only because it was my first car, but I had a lot of fun in it, even though it was in the shop more than in my driveway...
I sure wish I had one today. Then I'd put a "modern" computerized 93 5.0 and T-5 in it. That would roxors.
