also, dunno if you're interested, but if you find the car you want without an engine/tranny, i have a 2.8L/4spd in my cobra II that im getting rid of to make room for the 5.0, but of course, im not getting rid of it until i get the 5.0 motor mounts for it....

Arin -

I have a 76' Cobra II that has a 2.8 V-6 4 speed....

I totalled it. (drive yours carefully, respect the car) I still have my car, the engine runs and all of the cosmetics parts as well as rear end are in working order...I need a donor car to transfer parts ONTO...thats why I need an original 4 speed V-6 hatchback II....

I always watch ebay....That Cobra II has floor board rust and is going for too much money. I wanna get my hands on a Mach I or 2+2 or ralleye or stallion that was an original V-6 four speed because then it would have came stock with the 8" rear end and my 3:55posi third member from my rear end would bolt right in. Does YOUR Cobra II have a 3:55 POSI rear??? HMM???

i think so, i was reading about that in the manual (yes! got my original manual!) and i think mine had 3:55s....

seeing as you had a 2.8L II, you can prbably understand me on this next part: i was originally looking for just any cool mustang, but i always had a soft spot for IIs. i was kinda dissapointed by the 2.8 when i found mine "man, its only a six" but the rest of the car is in fine cond so i bought it with the idea to transplant a boss/type motor (which im still doing btw) but what surprised me is that even with 97rwhp on tap, this thing was pretty peppy, and it handles great. i was totally not expecting that from a 70s era car :P the "peppiness" is part of what leads mr to beleive it has 3:55s

and trust me, i will definately drive this baby carefully. i worked too hard and saved up for it too long to drive recklessly. and plus, with my insurance plan, as a part of my moms plan to make me more responsible, if i hit someone or something, my insurance will take care of them, but not me. which i guess is just as well b/c II parts are so hard to find any way. the insurance compantes would probably just total it :P

PS- nice to see another II fan

would you ever consider selling me your car if I bought another car that had the original 302V-8 in it and an automatic setup??? Because you are going to have one heck of a time trying to reWIRE that body...BUT if you get an original 302 car from me then we could trade and we would be getting the PERFECT cars from each OTHER! I'll tell yah...your II is THE CAR i have waited for and I'll do anything for it...believe me. THINK about this offer thouroughly and investigate what I mentioned about rewireing...AND re mounting aN AUTO TRANNY SET UP AS WELL. Its the truth. I would have the same problem IF I had bought an original 302V-8 car and tried to put MY V-6 into it....I'd be in your shoes NOW! so think about this...I could seriously make this work for yah! for both of us!

arin...WHY would you EVER tear apart one of the last remaining V6 4speed hatchback/fastback Mustang II's left in exsistence by swapping the motor...and tearing out the tranny....its like SACRELIGIOUS!!!! please dont do it! PLEASE! your car is tooooo rare of a find to be torn apart like the rest of its breed. PLEASE reconsider and think about what IM saying...it would be more practical to get an original 302 car ANYway because of the wiring...let alone the moral dilemma you face about tearing up such a rare specimen as the cobra II you have landed with!!! !!!!!

wow... i didnt know you felt so strongly about it...

this is kind of hard for me. i mean, i deally i was searching for a 302 car originally, but i never found a II with one, and this car means alot to me. i mean heck, i saved up for it since i was 12! now im 16, and im really not sure...

but, as great as it is, i might be willing to do a trade IF the car was another cobra II or a King Cobra. i've also always wanted T-tops, but that might be hard to come by. where are you located by the way? cuz it'd be really hard for me to travel anywhere, especially since im starting school tomorow...

i love your enthusiasm for the 2.8L, i've always like the underdog. but i NEED a V8. but there are a few other problems.
#1 im bidding on V8 motor mounts on Ebay
#2 i already bought the new motor and tranny...

but i guess i could always re-sell those.... im really not sure...
well... let me know if anything comes your way. T-tops and any specialty packages (mach 1, cobra II or King Cobra) are plusses

by the way, when were T-tops first put into the II? cuz now that i think about it, a '75 II would be a little bit cooler (no emmissions...) and if it wasnt one of the rare models, i guess i could mod it without guilt. but if it was a less rare model, could we work out a trade +maybe a few hundred $? dont wanna sound pushy but i do know a cobra II is fairly rare... i dunno, we can work out any details later... let me know what you find.

cole, i may seem hesitant, but if the conditions are right.... well im leaning on to the yes-ish side. the hard part will be convinceing my parents... they say i've invested a small fortune on my car... but the plus side is i havent added any parts to the II yet. they're mostly in my garage or in my room (lol i sleep next to a shelby side exhaust system)

after this long and some-what thought out post, i think i probably would do it, if the conditionsd are right. now im just rambling on and on.

i hope you understand, its kind of hard to let go cuz this is the first mustang, heck its the car i've ever owned. and i payed for it all on my own. it was the proudest moment in my life when i handed over the $$ and was able to say "this is 100% mine"

but i can see that you really like the V6. i've had my own chare of dreams smashed to oblivion and im not about to do the same to someone else. heck, you sound like the guy who would do a full on resto on this old gal and bring her back to her original condition. and she is fairly rare... that whole restore/restomod has been buggin me about this car for a while. and wiring is definately NOT my strong point lol.

well... (how many times have i said this so far) lemme know what you come across...

this isnt exactly the car i'd want you to buy (wouldnt be fair for you, though i certainly wouldnt mind lol) but its kind of around what i had in mind. T-top, special model, V8, its all i really need. im just saying this is the ballpark of what i'd trade for....

I will do it Arin. Just let me tell my dad what the deal is. Sorry this reply took SUCH a long time to post, but my internet has been down since forever. I already have a prospect in mind. It's a MACH I COBRA package...its very rare, the cobra package was installed on a MACH I body back in 75' up in CANADA...and the nickname for these relics was called the Canadian Cobras...its one of a few left and its a turn key, rebuilt, georgeous car. It has A/C...302 V-8 original...and and AUTO tranny. The car is imaculate. This Canadian Cobra would be THE car you would want...trust me. I will find the photos and make copies and send them in the mail(no scanner) I could buy it then write up a contract for you and I to sign and we could trade. I'll see what my dad says. I'll also get you the vin numbers to this Canadian Cobra so you can see the specs for yourself !!! Its about 50 miles away from where I live. I only never bought it because I need a 4 speed V6 car...! I'll have to speak with you over the phone though. Do you mind calling me sometime in the evening at my cell number??: 1-(540)-270-1789

I live in Culpeper Virginia and I'm willing to pay shipping for your car to be shipped here...and maybe if you give me a straight trade in for your Cobra II...I'll cover the shipping to get your car to you! Think about it! I can't wait to talk to you over the phone. This is like a dream or something haha! almost perfect..or as close as anyone oculd come.
