ok guys the theme for this weekis to build a pro touring trans am style 70 fast back. let's get everyones ideas on what direction we should go with the theme, ie: show car, race car, driver or whatever. i'm going to set the budget for this build at 40,000 bucks so hopefully we won't get too crazy with it.

here is the general format i would like to follow, but with Jay's idea of leaving the shop foreman out.

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=8804

and here is the car we will start with

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...2497825685&rd=1

so let's get the creative juices flowing.

Blake, can you put this up top as a sticky?

The guy who actually bought the car says it's rust free.

Just an idea to kick around....

How about a 1995 Cobra R-themed 70?????

Cross-breed

and

Smooth the body, paint it solid bright white, cowl hood, Cobra R wheels - use the "gills" beside the headlights for a turn signal (top) and brake cooling (bottom). Some round foglights in the corners of the rear valance opening... A hairy Blown EFI alum-head 351W stroker, 6-speed, and 9" locker....

I think your $40k budget and Pro-Touring concept are incompatible. Might have to define a new segment...

I would merge the '70 with this (right down to the Carbon Fiber hood and the color):

Drop the wing of course

i was actually thinking of that color, kind of a 70 boss t/a style look to it. by the way in case anyone ever wanted to know the original grabber orange is actually school bus yellow .

Jay, i think a 40 grand pro touring car is doable with careful part selection, heck i think it can be done for 25-30,000.

we already have a 9" rear, a good body decent interior stuff to start with so the rest is basically just paint and bolt ons, and engine and tranny.

i think we should combine cloney's idea with Jay's idea, i don't think the 5.0 cammer will work with 40k budget though, that engine is like 10k all by itself

OK. This made me realize that someone should start doing glass fenders for the early cars that have that air extractor treatment like the GT-R concept... that would look hot.

i would kind of like to keep a vintage look to the car but with a modern flair

Jay, glass is easy enough to work with, we could make our own extractors, but they would have to be functional, though, i can't stand non-functional scoops. that's one of the reasons i added the shlelby vert side scoops to my coupe, they aren't functional right mow but they will be when i get my rear discs installed. but even now they can be, not like the original 69 coupe ornaments

i'm looking for some wheels right now

Biggest Minilite-style I've found was 16x8...

What about some Vintage 40's - 17x8 & 17x9.5 would be off-the shelf... I like the straight spokes - a little more modern, yet retro...

How about white with the carbon fiber hood (mild cowl). Carbon fiber spoiler and taillight panel to match. Cobra style wheels, Recarro's. Eliminate the front bumper and the Mach sportlamps and smooth the front valence all the way out putting small fogs in the lower portion like the Cobra. You could have the lower Mach rockers covered in carbon fiber to tie the front to the rear , but I prefer the solid white side with the door handle removed for flush mounts. All the wood trim in the interior would be replaced with carbon.
Gotta go 6 speed; 9 inch is there; stroked 351w with the new paxton

yeah, that was actually my first choice, but i thought most of the guys on here would want something with a little more bling, i hate the curved spokes personally and i've always wanted a set of these wheels

i kind of like that 351 based roush motor that Jay posted in the SEMA thread, with the weber looking fuel injection. that would look wicked in a t/a styled car. and haul hiney too, i think a 6 speed wouyld go good as well, and mybe the gearwood 4 link rear with coilovers instead of air bags. maybe use pt cruiser door handles on this car instead of totally smoothed. i would like to some kind of "r" model style front valance somehow, i just don't know how it would look without a front bumper, though. i had thought about doing some kind of split bumper on the front ala 70 z-28 syle but i don't know how that would look either. i do know the car will have to have some kind of fender flares though, but not huge ones just enough to tell they are there if you really start looking but not enough that you would notice them right off, something that you know just doesn't look quite stock but you can't figure out exactly what without studying the car.

Actually for the flairs, I was looking at the 3 tiered "gills" on a Hyundai Tiburan. If they could be flipped over and used in front of the rear tires would look really slick, and easily be made functional. I was measuring them out for my 65 but I couldn't get them right.
