VIN Decoding Help.

Ok so here's my dilema.....
I will be starting my resto Sept 10th. on my 69 Vert.

I need to find out exactly waht the car was from the factory. I have decoded my VIN using the applications on the net. However this only gives you the basic information (Model year,Body style,Assembly plant,Engine code and consecutive #) . All the interior, trim and axle information is contained on the drivers door "Data Plate". My problem is someone has changed the drivers door and did not migrate the Data plate.
1) Is there a way to get all the information off the VIN ?
2) Is there a way Ford can send out a new Data plate ?

Thanks for any help !!!

Agreed, spend the money on a Deluxe Marti Report and you can order a new door data plate with rivets at the same time. This report will tell you what dealer it went to and whether it was a special order or a stock order...date it was produced and sold as well as all options it came with. VERY useful report and worth every penny .

There's another way to get the data plate information. I've gotten info about my current '67 and former '69 Mustangs directly from Ford. Call the Ford Customer Relationship Center at 1-800-392-3673 and ask for a "History 999" report for your VIN. Here's the link to their contact info: http://www.fordvehicles.com/help/contact/

And here's a copy of what that report looks like. The last paragraph contains the data you're looking for. There is no charge for this service - or wasn't when I last did it in 2002!

A couple of years ago, I called Ford and got History 999 reports on several of my Stangs and the CJ Fairlane. Nice looking framable document. Tip: Don't request more than 1 report at a time or you may overload the Ford employee looking up the info for you. kennyg
