I'm fighting for space on my exhaust install. Attempting to make my own H-Pipe from all the pieces I had to cut the JBA pipe into, to allow it to come close to fitting. I'm wondering if there are any measurements done or expectations for the clearance a driveshaft requires to avoid interferance?
I'm running a 9" rear with 5 leaf springs and KYBs (and a rear sway bar that acts as a limiting device somewhat). Also in the mix are shelby bars and 1" lowering blocks. This is like voodoo science but

Where do you put all those leaf springs? I only have two. B)
I think I would feel safe with 1 inch gaps horizontally, considering how far forward the pipes/shaft meet. And you should be able to articulate the rear vertically to see how much room you need in that plane. With the car up on jacks and the rear hanging free, that's as much vertical as you'll ever get. And you'll have to be doing Bullitt imitations to get that.
Keep in mind the pipes probably move around more than the driveshaft does. Secure them well.

I think thats the idea, 'glo. Raise the car, and lower/raise the rear axle through full travel..leaving aside complete suspension "rebound" from a Bullitt maneuver, thats all the room you will need. It cant be much...the pinion angles cant get very far out of line or binding will result.

This is a very good suggestion. I'll have to run this test tonight before we get into the welding phase. It's tight, an inch would be very generous. I'm going to have to build my own and at some point get it to a Mandrel shop to turn it into art work.

I did not measure it... instead I did some more engineering on the H-Pipe and I got the additional clearance I could possibly need. I may still check it later when I'm playing with the jack stands and jack. I'll put the info up when/if I do.

I was surprised to see how little the overall movement was. At the tranny tunnel point it's pretty far up the lever (so to speak) that the travel is minimal (perhaps due also to the 5 leafs (per spring Mber) springs). I did not bother to even measure it... I've got a pic of it at full droop I can paste her later.
