I posted a while back asking about repairing cowl rust and I have now read through a few faqs. No one though seems to have had the problem (or at least hasn't written about it) of rust on the bottom of the cowl (on the inside) or on the back of the dash.
I have this problem however, and was wondering if anyone else has. I'm pretty sure I willhave to remove the dash. I didn't want to because I was afraid of not getting it back in the same spot, but eghh what can you do? Has anyone else had to remove their dash. I saw a bracket on the bottom holding it in, not sure what else is holding it.
Anyway, just seeing if anyone else has shared the same pains.
^stupid question considering topic: "Mustang+cowl+water=rust"

I have the same issue on my 72 coupe. I have done what I could with rust converters and such to treat the area without disassembly for now. In addition I store it inside and only drive it when the weather is nice. I think I will leave it like it is until I get ready to have the body work done. It will probably be a couple of years until that happens though. It is frustrating, :bang: because that is sucha difficult area to get access to.

I'm confused as to what you mean by "the bottom of the cowl". That is where the biggest problem is. Unfortunately you have to remove the upper panel on the outside to fix it. Maybe that's where your confusion is?

As for the dash, I have seen them rusty. There is more than one bracket holding it in though. They are spot welded in on the sides and at the windshield. Difficult to remove, I'm sure, but doable.

Sorry about the late response, but I havn't been on for a while. What I mean by the "bottom of the cowl" is the cowl as you see it when you look from the inside under the dash. I'm pretty sure I will have to remove the dash to repair everything as much as possible. I'm just worried about getting it back in correctly.

And I will also have to remove the top panel of the cowl to put in the replacement pieces also. More Fun.

Those pieces that you are seeing from underneath the dash are the same ones that you will be replacing when you take the top off.

Take a look at the thread I made when I repaired my cowl and you'll see what I'm talking about.
