Transmission Slipping
So I noticed this a little bit last summer, but this spring its even worse.
Whenever the engine is cold (like after start-up) my C4 wont engage into any gear... Reverse, Drive, Green gear, 1st....none of them.
BUT... When I give it a little gas... it WILL eventually slip into gear...It will even fall OUT of gear at times at Idle level RPM... but as the engine warms up, it gets better and better. And it never falls out of gear above 1000 RPM. I drove it for about 45 minutes last week and by the end of the trip it didn't slip at all when I had to switch gears.
Am I just a little low on fluid? or do I have bigger problems?

I'd try a transmission flush and filter change first. Sometimes it helps. If its a mechanic shop (instead of a quick lube place) they might tighten the bands too (they have to drop the pan anyway to get to the filter).
Then possibly try an additive like Lucas if its still acting up.
Then its probably torque converter issues.
My old Eagle acted up and I was able to limp along a few more years. The fluid flush & tightening the bands helped a bit - there was a lot of filings on the magnet. But D would still slip or not want to engage when it was cold. I'd have to manually shift it and hold in 2nd until I was up to speed, then go to D. In 30-40 traffic I just left it in 2nd. It was probably the torque converter.

It was low... (I check checked it cold) so I put about a half quart in before I drove it to work this morning. Seemed to help as it slipped less for s shorted period. I'll check it again when I get home for a "hot" level and add more as needed.

Topped it off.... Shifts great right from start-up!
