transmission problems
I just fininished installing my rebuilt C4 and everything went smoothly. I got the car ready to start and realized it would roll in all gears and would not turn over. I crawled underneath and adjusted the shifter linkage. I got it to go into park, which allowed the neutral safety switch to let the starter turn over. Once I got the car to start, tuned it a little, I put it into reverse and it was still in neutral. The same for D, 2, and 1. It will go in and out of park, but it is like all other gears are in neutral. Do I need to adjust the linkage again? I am adjusting it at the shifter, where it is slotted. Does anyone know where it needs to be?
Did you disassemble the valvebody? Did you make sure all the ***** got back in the right spots? If you didn't disassemble the valvebody, my next guess is that you didn't get the linkage positioned correctly when you reinstalled the valvebody. You have to get it in just right with respect to other levers and pistons. I would drop the pan, remove the valvebody, and check this area closely.
I did check the fluid level. It's fine. I did not rebuild the transmission myself, I had a reputable shop do it as well as flush, check, and fill the converter. I did not mean to insult anyone, I am just used to a forum where there is a wealth of information and people are usually quick about responding with help. There are also no make believe car buildups, or at least they're not taken that seriously.

If it was built by a reputable shop, I know just what I'd do....call them.
Edit: I didn't realize you were messing with the shifter until I reread your post.
Put the car on jackstands, and disconnect the shifter linkage. Start the car in park. Crawl under the car and and activate the shifter linkage at the transmission. You may need someone sitting in the car to operate the brakes so you don't start slamming gears. If the tranny works that way, you've got something wrong with your shifter setup. If not, refer to step one.

Nearly impossible for those of us who can not see, hear, or feel what it is doing to diagnose the problem... :nono: I would guess that the internal linkage was not done correctly when the valvebody was installed. I've never had any luck getting the torque convertor more than 1/2 "pre-filled" either - always had to add more fluid after startup.

I was unaware you could add more fluid to the torque converter after its already in. Will fluid added to the tranny work its way into the torque convertor?
I would like to try everything else before I resort to talking to the shop.
