Been a long time since I've had to get under the covers. I need a refresher on the proper tightening of the rockers. Kick it over, tighten... repeat... etc.

It's on my 351W. I have the torque spec listed as 17 - 23 ft lbs

TIA

If you have non-adjustable rockers/studs, just just tighten them all down to the listed torque spec.

If yours has a hydraulic cam and adjustable rockers/studs, I have always just turned the crank by hand to the #1 firing position (make sure you're not 180* out), then tighten the rocker nut until the pushrod no longer spins freely. Turn it 1/2 turn more, and you're done with that valve. Do the other valve for that cylinder.
Then, keep turning the crank in 90* increments, and follow the firing order to adjust the other cylinders.

For solid lifters, you use the same method listed above, but instead of zeroing the clearance, you use a feeler gauge to set the clearance between the rocker and valvestem tip.

I had asked this question before elsewhere... I have heard that just cranking down positive stop rockers w/o rotating to each cylinder, you run the risk of bending a rod if the lifter is not sitting the base circle of the cam lobe.....

Its been awhile for me, but could someone check this procedure for valve lash positive stop rockers on a 302: TDC on #1 compression tighten #1 intake & exhaust, #7 intake, #5 exhaust, #8 intake, #4 exhaust. Rotate crank 180 and tighten #5 intake, #2 exhaust, #4 intake, #6 exhaust.
Then Rotate crank 90 degrees or is it 270 degrees? tighten #2 intake, #7 exhaust, #3 intake & exhaust, #6 intake, #8 exhaust.( all nuts are torqued to 18 lbs.)

That got me searching...

Found these directly from Crane at a price lower than Summit (does not happen to often, but always good to check). Only glitch is if they can ship anything due to the weather situation, they are in Florida. Summit lists the part as being available 10/9.
