I've posted this advice many times before but a trip this weekend to Pep Boys reminded me to bring it up again. When you are ready to deviate from the original color and you are choosing something different, you can make future upgrades and/or repairs easier if you can find a suitable color off a mass production model. For example when my car was painted I chose 1998 Ford Torreador Red Clearcoat Metallic ... I get tons of compliments on the color and what is its? It's a color right off the Taurus and F150.

So now I go to Pep Boys and they have the touch up in bottles AND rattle cans. Great for doing updates like my current project of smoothing the console and painting it to match the dash and exterior.

EXCELLENT point!

I was reminded of this just weeks ago, when I found spray cans, brush bottles, AND the ball-point pen version of my late-model "Performance White" at WALMART! Try THAT with Wimbledon!

Jay, I didn't realize yours was Toreador Red. Is it the DARK Toreador Red? That's the same color I have picked out for mine but it looks much darker....like close to Vintage Burgandy darker. Did they have 2 different versions?

I had an 86 GT "Dark" Toreador Red and it looks more Red than Burgandy when it is waxed and polished. Back then it wasn't clearcoat so that might be the reason they call it a different name now, so it's not confused with the old one. It is one of my all time favorites and the newer cars around do look like the same color as before. Nice Choice Josh!

Yup, 2 versions. I have the lighter version. The Dark is another color you can pick up off the rack (they even sell it in the big truck cans).

Whew! That had me worried. My 03 F150 is Toreador but it's MUCH lighter than the one I found on the 98s. IIRC, the code is JL for the dark. I'm using the DARK Toreador Red because it's close to my original Vintage Burgandy.

On the topic of OEM colors, I saw a BMW Z3 the other day that had a reddish/orange with a dark tan top. I could envision that color combo on my 64.5 vert with the Palomino interior.

Found a pic. Whatcha think?

Nice color. I'm sure it'd be great for the resale.

It's just hard for me to see that car as anything other than concours.
